It has little to say about the settlement.

Cowgate is a hamlet in this township, 2 miles north-west from Newcastle

We do learn on other pages that Thurtell & Kersey were trading from Cowgate, George Stephenson was running the Grey Hull, and Edward Tanner was a local beer retailer.
