Mrs Sissons in 1920

Whether Mrs Sissons (possibly Mrs Siddons – the film archive records include both names – was really 101 years old as is claimed in this silent newsreel is anyone’s guess.

But she certainly did seem to enjoy her trip on a biplane in 1920.

Champion Brass Band Heroes in 1946

On 4th December 1946, the residents of Brighouse turned out in force to welcome home their local brass band, who had just won the national championship.

They are filmed slowly progressing down streets heaving with people, with several buildings seen in the background too, and at the end they are met by the Mayor and other Town Hall dignitaries.

This event is reminiscent of the turnouts today for returning premier league football champions.
