Goody’s Yard Auction 1956

In 1956, Goodey’s Yard at Twyford was the setting of an unusual auction. 600 lots, from derelict cars to traction engines, horse drawn vehicles, a penny farthing and even an anchor were up for grabs.

The merry-go-round, shown in working order with two serious children ‘enjoying’ the ride, sold for £150, quite a sum in 1956.

I love learning about history, and for the past 30 years have enjoyed books, films, and documentaries on the topic. On days off from work my favourite destination with friends and family are museums, historic buildings, and archaeological sites, or just walking around interesting streets with old buildings to admire.
