Suspension Bridge in 1926
In 1929 the L.N.E.R railway engineers tested vibrarions on Wylam’s suspension bridge with delicate instruments, as a steam locomotive travelled across.
The footage includes lovely shots of the steam locomotive on the bridge, taken from different angles, some houses in the background, and some of the men suspended in the air on planks.

George Stephenson’s Birthplace in 1929
In 1929, the Lord Mayor of Newcastle unveiled a memorial tablet on the front of the cottage where George Stephenson was born on June 9, 1781.
The Stephenson family’s adults and children all lived in one room of the house, with the other rooms rented to several other families. George later became famous for his invention of the Rocket steam engine.
You can visit this house today, which is run by the National Trust.
