“Another piece of old film I’ve managed to save from an old video tape made whilst driving home from work in Andover back in the mid 1980’s. Entering Highclere, through the village and as far as Blind Man’s Gate. A lot has changed since then I think !”

“I travelled this road regularly from late 1977 to 1996, sometimes with a colleague and sometimes by myself. There were many changes along here over the years, notably the absence of the A34, and i’m glad now that some of these drives were filmed.”

Highclere Castle is a country house in the Jacobethan style by the architect Charles Barry, with a park designed by Capability Brown. The 5,000-acre estate is in Hampshire, England, about 5 miles south of Newbury, Berkshire. It is the country seat of the Earl of Carnarvon, a branch of the Anglo-Welsh Herbert family. Highclere Castle was a filming location for the British comedy series Jeeves and Wooster, which starred comedians Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry. It was also used as the main filming location for the award-winning period drama Downton Abbey. The great hall and some of the bedrooms located inside the building were also used for filming. The castle and gardens are open to the public during July and August and at times during the rest of the year.
