Market War 1927
In 1927, the market stall holders of Harringay found themselves in a battle with Tottenham Council.
Despite the local newspaper selling their day’s edition with the title ‘Market War’, I could not find out what had actually caused the disagreement, or how it was settled.
Anyway, as we see in this short clip, men loaded market stalls into horse drawn carts, of which there was quite a long line.
Even the police were present, to prevent further trouble, as big groups of people solemnly watched on.
