Cairnbulg 1986

This home movie offers just over six minutes of footage showing the coastline village back in 1986.

The road to the harbour and the Cairnbulg Boathaven were built long after this recording.

Several streets appear with nice clear images, some of them with people or cars seen too.

New Harbour 1989

The villagers collected £15,000 to build a new harbour. The Scottish Development Agency added another £60,000.

To source the building material, they then collected a thousand tank trap blocks from the World War 2 coastal defences still found along Fraserburgh beach and Belgar beach.

Andrew May of the Cairnbulg Boathaven Society talks to the news cameras about the volunteer labour which made the project possible, and its benefits.
