Oxford Street in the 1970s

In the 1970s, this silent footage of London’s Oxford Street was recorded partly from a car and partly on foot.

It includes many of the big stores then on this famous shopping street, as well as the front of some of the buildings, and many pedestrians shopping and going about their daily lives.

I love learning about history, and for the past 30 years have enjoyed books, films, and documentaries on the topic. On days off from work my favourite destination with friends and family are museums, historic buildings, and archaeological sites, or just walking around interesting streets with old buildings to admire.
