An old photo of Netherwitton Northumberland

Apr 27, 2025
This is an old photo taken in Netherwitton, Northumberland, showing the front of the J Haggis Provision Merchant shop, along with the drive and part of a nearby house. There's a lady sitting on the bench outside the shop, with the boot scraper at her feet. Nearby there is a motorbike, which was a popular mode of transport in the 1920s and 1930s. Netherwitton is a charming little village in Northumberland, England, located about 8 miles northwest of Morpeth. It used to be home to a cotton mill, but that's been turned into cozy residential homes. You’ll find the old village school transformed into a house, a quaint little bridge, a small church, and several cute cottages with lovely gardens scattered around. It’s a lovely spot to explore. I've shown the full image, and then a number of closeups.
